CAL, Crochet Along, Moogly CAL 2016

I decided to join in on Tamara Kelly’s Crochet Along on Moogly. This is my first time doing a CAL and I’m really excited! Those of you who’re familiar with her CALs would already know about it.

Link to it is : http://www.mooglyblog.com/mooglycal2016-block-1/

I know I had begun work on my first afghan 3-4 months ago. But, sheepishly I admit, I have lost interest and I’m ashamed of myself. I will pick it up again, but not just yet 🙂 The Moogly CAL has suddenly taken my fancy and I want to do that first. I have also decided on the colors that I want to use (as seen in the picture; I’m not too great with color combos, but keeping fingers crossed) and have started working on the first block. Should finish today.

Moogly CAL

I just might be able to stick to this project mainly because they’re all going to be different blocks which will be revealed on specific dates. I found the part of not seeing all the blocks before-hand quite appealing. Like a mystery. So that will take care of the monotony of making identical blocks like the one I’ve kept on hold. Plus, I have joined their Ravelry group and that could possibly motivate and inspire me to spur on. I’ve already found them helpful on my questions and wasn’t disappointed.

So overall, a good start. Let’s see how it goes 🙂

Crochet Cowls, Zara Cowl

Ever since I crocheted 2 Infinity Scarves as gifts, I have been having the urge to make a few more. Mostly cowls.

I have completed 1 for myself (minus the decorative element) –

The Zara Cowl by Cre8tion Crochet. A paid pattern that can be found here :

Zara Cowl

And here are a few more that is definitely in my To-Do list and hopefully I’ll complete them soon enough :

  1. Cowl Shoulder Cozy
  2. First Love Cowl
  3. Cathedral Convertible Cowl
  4. Mobius Cowl

These should do for now. Once I make them, I’ll just add them in my blog gallery so you can see how they turned out 🙂

All done!

I stayed up till 2 a.m this morning to finish the 2 WIPs and I am in love with them! I have half a mind to keep them for myself, but I must not be selfish. ‘Tis the season to give.

Now all that is left is to wrap ’em and tag ’em and enjoy my 2-day holiday stress-free.

This Christmassy Month..

Gosh! There’s only less than 4 days for X’mas!! I bet those of you who’re hand-making their presents are all done with it and everything is gift-wrapped and tagged!

Me? I still have 2 things in the works and I’m hoping like mad and keeping all fingers crossed that I WILL FINISH IN 3 DAYS.

The winter here had started all of a sudden the first week of Dec and its been getting bone-chillingly cold now and then. I was informed that this cold wave will last until the mid of Jan where temperatures will vary from 0-8 degrees with seriously cold winds.

Although there have been some days where it wasn’t all that much.

I can’t stand the cold, but the joy of the Christmas season is somehow keeping me from feeling entirely blue.

The X’mas tree had been up the first week already and I’d started working on my gifts a bit late. This is the first time I’m gifting things I personally made for occasions and I’m hoping the recipients like them 🙂

Look what I’ve made so far :

Ponchos for both my nieces. I still have the second one to complete!! (It just HAS to finish before X’mas. It HAS to.) :

Elfy-Hats for the kids. This is just for the fun of it. The Pom-Poms yet remain. Dear Lord! That’s another thing to complete 😦

The pattern is by Chassity from Two Little C’s and I found it lovely and perfect. You can check it out here :

A few Christmassy wreath ornaments for our tree that I’d crocheted in the beginning of the month :

My sis-in-law’s birthday is on the 23rd. Really close to X’mas. I had gotten her some really pretty jewelry and just to add my own personal touch to it, I’m in the process of making another infinity scarf :

So! I’ve managed to get this far with it all. I’ve got a crick in my neck and fingers from all the crazy, rushed crocheting, but its been crazily fun too.

There’s a certain excitement in the air and I wish the days weren’t going by so fast..

But next year, I’m going to be making all the presents in the summer. Hah! Easier said than done, right?

I’m really excited over the afghan I’m crocheting.

Have made quite some progress as you can see :

Still got a really long way to go and I hope I get there soon!

Crochet Afghan, Crochet Square

Its time I stopped shying away from crocheting afghans. I always feel I’ll never see it to the end. Its mainly to do with the fact that I’m impatient and get bored with projects that take long to complete. And I hate starting on things unless I’m certain it will be complete at some point in the very, VERY near future. I don’t have many WIPs precisely because of this.

But crochet is one hobby that does need a lot of patience and I find myself a little bit more patient these days (as also observed by the better half upon seeing me patiently playing with the 2 yr old sans any grumblings most of yesterday 😀 ). Not sure if the credit goes to this hobby though.

So with that, I have embarked on my very first afghan project. Its the kind where you make a set of blocks that will be joined together with another color and borders added to turn it into 1 large piece. Y’all know the type I’m talking about, don’t you?

AND I’VE COMPLETED THE FIRST BLOCK!!

20151016_143701  20151016_143853

The block is called Kata from over at Look at What I made.

The pattern asked for a 4 mm hook, but I’m using a 5.5 mm. I am working it only until the 10th round and I’ve changed that round to be 3 DC in each of the chain spaces only contrary to the SCs in every stitch and chain spaces that the actual pattern called for.

The last round is done in a lovely wine color although it looks almost black in the pics.

I haven’t yet decided what the joining color will be, but I think I will go for White. Its my first afghan attempt.. what do you all think of the color combos in the pic? Any good? Would the last round look better in another color? The yellow maybe.. same as the middle? Any suggestions are most welcome.

DIY : Recycling Old Tin Lids

Apart from learning new crochet stitches, I have been recycling some lids that I’d saved from my son’s formula milk tins and I am so loving what I’ve begun to do with them. Always felt these lids would come in handy some day and that day is here :).

I’ve been working on turning them into photo frames most of last week and I’ve completed 2.

Look!

20150920_212046[1]   20150920_201228-1[1]

I had gotten myself a power punch that could punch holes in thin metals (Neiko Hand Held Power Punch). So I used that to make holes 1.5 cm apart all around the lid.

Took glossy prints of photos that I’d like displayed, cut them out round and stuck them on the base.

Then I just crocheted around the holes on the lid, added embellishments, et voila – I’ve got myself some lovely photo frames to adorn my walls!

The pink one was the first one and it was sort of a trial and error attempt. Hence, the uneven spacing of the holes. The orange one was done with a little more proper measuring and planning and so, looks a bit more neater.

I’ve got 6 more to make and plan to turn one into a fridge magnet.

Once I’m done with all, will put up another click.

What do you think?

Crochet Mandalas, Mandalas

I’ve been bitten by the Mandala bug. There are so many of them that I’m just dying to make! And a lot of them look so complicated, but intricately amazing too!

Here are a few that caught my eye :

Summer of ’15 : Mandalas for Mums and Some Yummy Passion Fruity Goodness

Crochet Mandalas, Magic spike mandala

Our backyard at home has quite a few fruity richness. Passion Fruit being one of them. I’m not too fond of many fruits, but I go crazy over these.

1438516417583-850894028

This week I’ve just been lazing around gorging on these yummy fruits and crocheting some mandalas for both our mums. Thought I’d please them with something that I personally made. Aim is to make at least 6. And I’ve completed only 2 so far.

20150802_173611 20150802_173658

The orangey one is based on Tamara Kelly’s Magic Spike Mandala. Check it out here :

Magic Spike Mandala

The green one is something I made as I went along. The last round turned out having too many stitches, hence the ruffly edges. Don’t ask why I didn’t bother re-doing it. Too lazy. But it did look alright, actually. And I AM going to make another one like it and be sure to put enough stitches for that round to make it lie flat. Maybe add more colors to the rounds instead of making it in just 1 solid color. Write down the pattern too while I’m at it 🙂

I’m already working on a third one, though. But that’s turning out star-shaped. Are there star shaped mandalas? I’ve even decided on a name for it, in any case. Will put up the pattern once done.

I only wish I’d brought more colors with me apart from the ones I’m stuck with. To be honest, the yarns were actually an after-thought. I should’ve stashed them first into the suitcase before piling on the clothes. Would’ve been fun watching the better half throw a fit 😀

Re-post : A New Website, A Birthday and a Lovely Lacy Shawl

18 Saturday Jul 2015

Sorry folks 😦

My new website crashed and I was kindly told by the hosting people that its best to “nuke it” (a term they used for deleting the website) and re-build it again.  I know that its all part of the learning process but that still didn’t stop me from shedding a lot of tears.

So now that there is no new website to shelter that lone post on it,  I have brought it home here – although the second line doesn’t make much sense now 😦

A New Website, A Birthday and a Lovely Lacy Shawl

16 July marks quite a few new things this year for me.

My new website is born today and yes, this is the first post on it.

I have also turned 36 today. Eeks! I am now in my late 30s although I don’t really feel it. No grey hairs. Still young at heart. Still childish and gigglish and impulsive. But I have mellowed down a bit. But just a tiny bit.

My pretty little lady made me a birthday card (a drawing actually). The cheeky little monster had no clue what to make of it all. But he stared in wonder at the card, pointed at every line and squiggle, chirped some baby talk and gasped in surprise. He’s been doing that quite a bit lately. Gasping in Surprise.

And not wanting to be left out, he tried to add his own scribble to it, which was promptly snatched back by the lady (no surprises there), resulting in lots of tears and loud howls of frustration, followed by a lot of yanking and pulling of the card which finally ended with the lady storming off tearfully and the fellow looking surprised and victorious all at the same time, holding up the crumpled card.

All this completely entertaining for me. What a fun start already 😀

Life-events update over, I have just put the finishing round to a new, pretty, over-sized lacy shawl that I have been working on based on a pattern by Annie’s and gifted it to myself :). And I just love it. Its the largest piece I have ever worked on and has turned out exactly like it does in the picture. For someone who hates the cold, I so can’t wait for winter to come knocking!!

Oooh! And before I forget, I shall very soon be heading home to India for a much-deserved 1 month vacation! I’m sure I’ll have plenty of fun and interesting things to post when there!

That’s pretty much it for now.

Back soon!
